So I'm new to town. All the way from Maine. Before I moved out here I heard alot about Green Seattle and Sustainable Seattle and how great Seattle is. Now don't get me wrong I have fallen in love with the city and it sure does a great job with curb side yard waste pick-up and planting trees and all,

BUT... You can't recycle yoghurt lids, cream cheese lids, sour cream lids, cottage cheese lids... Mabye it's just me but you don't have much to get excited about when you're just a "consumer". Buying foods that come in 100% recyclable containers and then being able to "recycle" them, gives me a warm squishy feeling. In contrast, throwing out perfectly good recyclable matter pisses me off.

I contacted Seattle Recycling, and the gent on the phone was polite and quick to respond that, "Lids become litter." Now that sounds a little silly to me. If the lids can blow out of the truck then how come paper or other things don't fly out.

Am I missing something? Do the Recycling Trucks have open tops? Is the city only worried about evil plastic litter lids, and everything else is "safe" litter? Do Recycling Trucks do wheelies down the high way? Was there a "No Lid Law" passed?

Looking for a little info.

Apparently, you can't even bring your lids yourself to the recycling facility.

Yeah, not sure we can recycle aluminum en masse yet.
