Does anyone get this? A month or so before Christmas every decides to donate to charity and become good people. What about the other 11 months of the year. I guess that single mom with 5 kids will just have to go to the shelter for food. Not that I give a crap about "the kids" any way but this hypocrisy just chaps my ass. Everyone celebrating the birth of Christ; the same Christ we sent thousands of children off in the 3rd crusade(I think it was that one?) to defend his honor; the same Christ the catholic church reveres. Its not even about religion either. I swear last night I saw 6 commercials for Jared Jewelery. How about taking the diamond ring you bought and give it to the mom with 5 kids you hypocritical bellevue bastard. Consume consume consume. Buy more useless shit.

Can someone give me some feedback on this. I just don't get why any half-way intelligent person would succomb to this plague of american moronity.

Did Santa forget you last year?

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that the "mom with 5 kids" doesn't have 5 kids because somebody bought a ring at Jared.

I'm not fond of consummerism either but why get so upset about it at Christmas? Isn't it a problem all year round? Much like lack of funds at local shelters and charities?

I think you may want to consider who Jesus REALLY was. I think you have somehow been misinformed..................

And turning His gaze toward His disciples, He began to say, "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.

"Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

"Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man.

"Be glad in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven For in the same way their fathers used to treat the prophets.

"But woe to you who are rich, for you are receiving your comfort in full.

"Woe to you who are well-fed now, for you shall be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.

"Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers used to treat the false prophets in the same way.

"But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,

bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

"Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either.

"Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.

"Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.

"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.

"If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.

"If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount.

"But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men.

"Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

"Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned;pardon, and you will be pardoned.

"Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure--pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return."

They quote bible versus and think some how you will be convinced after hearing the centuries old double speak. Here is a little tip for you, if you want to recruit more people into your cult you have to approach them on their level, not make them come to yours. Quoting bible versus doesn't do anything for me. But explaining what you think jesus is and what role he plays in your life would have a better chance of brain washing me. Oh and it also helps when you find someone that has recently been through a traumatic experience. I suggest you go to your local ER and recruit people there. You could travel around the country and start a whole business, I mean church by recruiting enough vulnerable people. I should start charging you for recruiting tips. Let me know if you want to start a business, I mean church together.

Why do the religious, when supporting their beliefs, quote a mythological book, written by a bunch of diehard fellow believers, as absolute fact? If I quoted Greek Mythology to prove to you that Zeus existed, you'd call me an idiot.

Xmas is laden with commercialism and materialism, and the guilt many feel is brought about by the 'spirit', or the consummate commercial brainwashing all around us that tells us that the time is something special and everyone must receive some sort of material gift, or their life is a failure.

Oh, and Jesus' birthday (OMG allusion to grammar thread!) was actually originally celebrated in February. December 25 is actually a Pagan gift giving holiday, from which the Kris Kringle character originated, and the Christians moved Jesus' birthday to 12-25 and redubbed it CHRISTmas to try and help recruit those pagans.

Doesn't that violate one of the Ten Commandments from the Old Testament: Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness To Thy Neighbor?

All of this said, my take on the holiday: fine. Do as you wish. It's always nice to receive gifts. People just get too worked up about it. They're just things; so what? And the guilt, once you strip away all the commercial brainwashing posing as 'The Holiday Spirit', makes little sense given people weren't falling all over themselves to feed the hungry in July or March.

Oh, and Jesus' birthday (OMG allusion to grammar thread!) . . .

That's an interesting case, in that Jesus and I think Moses are a couple of Chicago's very few exceptions to their s's rule. So even Chicago thinks "Jesus' birthday" is correct. Just to make things more confusing.
