View Full Version : Panic over November!

Those of you who know me a little here know my line of work, so this will make sense to you more than others.
So after November it may be a great while that you all hear from me. My name has been submitted for a selection board to go overseas. Not the good kind of going overseas either. I should know by Friday. But if selected I will be there for 224 days boots on the ground.
Not much I can do about it really, but I found out last night as I was leaving work, and now I am freaking out. I already talked it over with Mrs. Fist, and Fisty Junior, and now it's the perpetual anxiety as I wait, impatiently, for the verdict.
If I do go, I will forward an e-mail address to some people here so you can keep in touch, if I don't then I will wipe the sweat from my brow and be thankful that I get to continue on staying with my family, and talking to you fine citizens of action.

Holy shit that's heavy, fist. Best of luck for a verdict in your favor.

Tell them that monkeys do not belong in deserts. Savannahs: maybe. Jungles: definitely. Deserts: no. They need to be nice to their monkeys by keeping them in their forests with their monkey families!
Let me know if you would like me to make a surrealist prayer for you, Monkeyfist.

Holy fucking hell! ls it the water? l don't know what to say. l'm so sorry. l believe it's time to throw some of my mojo back, and pay it forward. l hope that since your name is up for selection, that the slip of paper with your name on it gets lost.

This is what l'm hoping for. l'll definitely be making a surrealist prayer. About losing that slip of paper.

Thanks for the kind supportings! I have had all day to sweat this out, and I have reached the point where I have just accepted that it is a gravely close possibility. It won't be so dramatic if I do. But if I don't then I will be pleasantly surprised.
There are a few silver linings, but not many that are worth it to me. Tax Free, Hostile Combat Pay, Family Seperation Allowance. Just the titles of the last two are bad enough.
Tax free...? Not so bad.
Worth me being apart from my family and friends? No.
Worth possible peril not of the Monty Python Kind? No.
Sorry if I am rambling on, but I feel a little better. Thank you all again it does mean a lot to me to know that y'all are pulling for me out there. Will keep you updated.

Other things will happen in November that may keep The Fist here, or bring him back sooner.

I haven't heard anything yet, I am of the mind that this is a good sign.

l'm curious as l don't know much on this topic....how many are being selected out of how many? What are your odds?

Each detachment sends two nominees. From those they select a Primary, and a Secondary (in case the primary is found medically unfit etc.). The Members nominated have thier records reviewed, and based on the best candidate from the record screening's for the job in question they select someone to go.
It looks as though the bullet hath been dodged! I am just hoping they don't send another request anytime soon. I don't think I can take the stress.

I lucked out and a guy from San Diego was selected. Single, no kids, all of which were factors in thier decision I guess.
