Re: Shit's Fucked Up - Local FSU Gang Disrupts All-Ages Hardcore Scene
I don't know where to begin here. The events sound terrible, but
unfortunately, Megan has taken some liberties with the facts in order
to sensationalize. There is the FACT that the article is wrong when
it says, "According to the Arizona Daily Star, members of FSU, armed
with hammers and machetes, invaded the venue and started shoving
concertgoers."
The article you reference (yet give no way to verify the reference)
notes something completely different. Here's the quote you failed to
mention because it isn't so sensational:
From Arizona Daily Star 9th December 2005
"Skrappy's staff members turned off the music, turned up the lights,
called police and forced the fight outside into the parking lot.
There, pushing escalated into a brawl when some of the adults, wearing
FSU shirts, grabbed weapons from cars, Krahe-Eggleston said. Someone
was hit in the head with a hammer, another was threatened with a
machete, she said."
There were not people invading the club brandishing weapons. After
the fight spilled out into the streets is when things went sour. But
we must remember that this particular club in Arizona (Skrappy's) is
notorious for violence, without even the presence of the FSU. Even in
the article you 'referenced': "Police were called to Skrappy's five
other times this year, including one call for an assault victim with a
minor injury. The other calls were for property crimes."
Now, how can I trust the article to be true when the 'facts' used have
been altered to make the story sound better?
Moving away from criticism, I wonder about the fate of the two
bouncers at El Corazon. Is it possible, that per chance the dozen
violent FSU members are an anomaly? Is it possible that they are the
rotten apples? I don't recall hearing that the bouncers were starting
fights or threatening violence. So, they just lost jobs because they
were connected to some FSU group? How is it right to discriminate in
such a fashion? Isn't Ms. LeFavor concerned in the least about the
dollars she'll now have to throw away in unemployment benefits? If
she wants to have a "sit-down" at the club to try and resolve the
situation in the music scene, she had two spokesmen available who I
know if I were in their shoe's would not be ready to have a congenial
'sit-down' discussion with her moderating.
So, yes: shit's fucked up. But Who, What, When, Where, and Why?
