Why do people think it is ok to zip to the front of a traffic jam, then expect you to let them in?

Because every time someon gets shot or rammed the aid units clean up the mess like nothing happened. They should leave the burning cars and bloated, rotting corpses beside the road as a visual reminder to "drive friendly."

I believe there was a law recently enacted which makes highway line cutting and on/off ramp passing illegal.
Next time get the plate # call non emergency line for the po po, or 911.

I don't know, but it's SO annoying. The worst spot for it is the entrance from I-90 Westbound to I-5 Northbound. It goes from 3 lanes to 1 lane as you get onto I-5. It's blazingly obvious both the left and right lane end. Every morning people stay in the merging lanes until the very end to race up in front of everyone in the center lane. It makes me crazy.
I would also like to say that I find it extremely annoying that very few people in this town know how to merge into traffic. You don't just stop and wait for somebody to let you in, you drive until you match the speed of traffic and FLOW in smoothly, thus avoiding a long line of stupidly stopped cars.

(206) 764-4376 is the number to report carpool lane violators.
Even as a bus commuter, that cut to the front bullshit on the Express Lanes pisses me off. I mean, weren't we supposed to be done with this cutting in line bullshit in junior high school? Now we're supposed to be okay with fortysomething (alleged) adults doing this on a highway where it's actually dangerous.
That anyone even lets them in line, on top of that, is disgraceful. Everyone should do what they do in more civilzed, stronger communities to people like that: just keep tight to each other's bumpers and not stand for that shit. People do it because others let them do it.
Assholes act like assholes because the rest of the world LETS THEM act like assholes, instead of standing up to them.

I hadn't either, until the late '80's - about the same time people from every other part of the country started moving here in large numbers.
Coincidence?
I don't think so...

The worst spot for that is the onramp for eastbound 520 from Lake Washington Boulevard (the last onramp before you get on the bridge). You have only about 40 yards to merge into 60mph traffic before you drive right into lake washington, yet people think it is easier to do that from a dead stop than going the same speed as the other cars. If you were supposed to stop right at the highway maybe they would have put the metered onramp light right there instead of 40 yards back down the onramp from the highway. Duh.

Because they are impatient and enjoy causing accidents. It always seems to be an SUV or mini van too. I think the manuals that come with these vehicles require the driver to be a dick.

I drive an SUV. I also let people in, am very curteous and have an impecable driving record. My SUV also gets better gas milage than any 8-cylider American car and spews far less emission. Although I did enjoy my dick-head manual, it came in the mail when I moved here. I do hate those line cutting bastards as much as the next person, but they do not annoy me as much as ten-miles-an hour-under-the-speed-limit guy. That guy sucks.

I'm with Gomezticator. Don't let the dickheads in. It's the only way to make it stop. Seriously. They know we're not paying enough attention, and that's why it works.
So, it's our duty to not tolerate line-cutters, sneaky mergers, and I'm-gonna-hit-you-if-you-don't-let-me-keep-coming-in aggroids. You have to be up enough on the bumper ahead of you to close-out the wanks, and it's your duty as an in-fronter to keep a smooth pace so that everyone else behind you can work together, too. The only thing worse than someone merging illegally / recklessly is watching someone ahead of you letting that person in, all right-ony.
Pay attention! Don't be another inattentive Seattle drive-hole! We have to work together to frustrate the dick-wipes. WE MUST!
Do not be hypnotized just because someone slows down along side you and flips their blinker on. Hey, look! My blinker! Right on?
We all know how to merge more or less, where merging is to be done. So, um, do it up nice. But we've also driven on the same roads a million times where people cheat, so we all know the games in each location. It cannot be allowed.
If you think the person is lost, or is a tourist or something, shit, help 'em out, hunh?. That's the definition of courteous. But we all know when a dick-puke is in our midst.
If traffic sucks, get in line, because traffic sucks. If you're a genius, use a short cut! That's it.
