and does anyone know anything about this years blockparty, when is it?

Due to poor planning, no participation and the foolish notion that it should be the exact same day and time as pioneer squares artwalk, Cap hill artwalk has been put away until "spring". Then it will fail some more, unless those in charge change the day. How about the third thursday of the month? Is it a competition with pioneer square because if it was/is then cap hill lost.

well that sucks, first Saturday was the best idea, doing it the same night as pioneer sqiare is dumb, well who do you have to get in touch with to start a new one then? screw it I'll just do it myself if I have to...

how many galleries does anyone think cap hill hs anyway?

A few. I think getting the buisiness involved by hosting local artists would be ideal not only for the artists but for small buisiness on the hill. My buisiness participated in every one (4,sad). The turn out was shit. Any different day would do as long as it's a different day. I think it was organized through the capitol hill art center? I would like to see it be successfull this time. It would be a great way to get people who normally do not come to the hill to check out the small buisiness on Capitol Hill.

Well the number one problem I saw with the last one was poor marketing, all I ever saw about it was some small flyer stuck to a pole, it's a great idea, perhaps if it was organized by business people rather than art people it might have a better chance to take hold, I've worked with the pioneer square association, it never has been an art driven venture, yeah the art is what there peddling, but it’s for the good of business that the whole thing is for....

With the recent demise of the cap hill chamber, local business will be left on their own to come up with and execute events that benefit us all....

So, where do we start?

I also thought it was bad to have the Capital Hill arts walk on the same night as the Pioneer Square night. Our gallery wanted to be included in its last incarnation, but we only discovered Arts Walk was occuring after the flyers were made.

With our experience a Saturday night is much better to bring people out to a gallery showing compared to a Thursday night.

Also, not knowing the budget the former/current group had, but one idea for promotion I would do is develop the poster early enough to have Keep Posted place them in the windows of Cap Hill a few weeks before the evening. It'll run about $30 plus poster costs.

 only discovered it "after the flyer were made" seems to me that all the galleries on the hill would have at least been contacted about it ahead of time...
OK, so assuming that the first group to do this is gone, and even if they are still around, it seems difficult to find faith in them... and assuming that people believe it's a good idea to try and do it again. We need to get together and put some stuff down on paper...I'm going to be rather busy over the next month, but I do have some resources that could make putting this together for a spring/summer season easy. I'm currently opening a new coffeebar up here on the hill, and I would really like to see the hill get some respect, so start thinking of what we could do to make a first Saturday event worth it.

Guess step one would be to put together a list of everything art on the hill, I've gone some stuff now, but not enough... I'd like to work some of the performing and film arts the hill has into the event too...

More ideas?
