Ok, just thought I'd point out that Napolean Dynamite is an MTV Films production in reference to Shmaders post below, not so sure if legitimate was the right word choice here:

Legitimate highlight: The Best Movie race featuring such mega-successes as The Incredibles, Spider-Man 2, and Kill Bill 2 all trumped by the grand-prizewinning Napoleon Dynamite.

I didn't care for Napoleon Dynamite all that much (too small, in almost every way).

But for such a film to score bigger with TRLers than all the star-studded explode-a-thons feels like a step in the right evolutionary direction.

Was KB2 that big of a financial success? It's by a popular director, but I don't remember it getting huge numbers. Maybe I'm wrong.

HAHA, I totally forgot that MTV produced Napoleon Dynamite! That makes their "win" seven thousand times more hilarious for all the wrong reasons. That's like the Seattle Mariners hosting a league-wide player awards show and naming Ichiro player of the year. LAME.

How did the MTV Awards shows get so popular and get so much alleged prestige anyway? I always equated such fare with their silly Rock and Jock events, a non-event posing as an event. Media has more power than I thought.

Okay, in fairness Napoleon Dynamite was a pretty funny movie that is, generally speaking, a lot smarter than most summer comedies directed at teens. Yeah, there's a huge conflict of interest, but a. it's not like this is the first movie MTV has directed, and b. it's not like this is the first time they've explored the wild world of COI. Anyway, why the fuck are you guys watching MTV? The only show they make worth watching (Wonder Showzen) is on MTV2.
