Someone please explain this to me. I feel like a joke was told and I am the only one in the room who doesn't get it. The Seahawks are going to the superbowl. No matter how much you try to convice yourself otherwise, screaming and cheering do nothing for the players. They couldn't give two shits about you and your over-priced over-sized jersey. So why are you so happy happy "they did it". Do you own part of the team? What exactly gives you such a hardon about the team who plays in the same city you live it?

Get over yourself. The fans had a huge hand in getting the Seahawks to the Superbowl. Remember the Giants game? Qwest Field is the loudest stadium in the NFL.
GO Seahawks! WE'RE GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL!

I understand the WTF sentiment of non-football fans and that this craze is rather nonsensical to you. Hell, I'm a football fan and even I got annoyed with all the GO SEAHAWKS talk on the morning news (I did NOT need to wake up to Manda Factor screaming GO SEAHAWKS at the top of her lungs on Monday morning).
Sports teams are a vehicle of civic pride whether you want them to be or not. People cheer those teams. Hell, there are entire TV networks devoted to sports. And when those teams win championships, naturally the citizens get very, very excited.
As for the following statement, it's inaccurate:
No matter how much you try to convice yourself otherwise, screaming and cheering do nothing for the players.
In football, after the teams line up, the quarterback calls verbal signals aloud before the play is run. Though they determine the play in the huddle, adjustments are often made based on how the defense sets up and adjusts. If the home fans cheer loudly when an opposing team runs a play, the verbal signals of the opposing team's quarterback can't be heard by his teammates. If he uses hand signals instead, chances improve that the home team's defense will pick up on them, anticipate the play and tackle the ballcarrier easily. Thus, the noise a team's fans make CAN impact an opponent's play.
Plus, yes, cheering can and does fire up a home team.

Cheering does nothing? Maybe you should ask NY Giants' quaterback Eli Manning about that. His team committed 11 false starts at Qwest field because his offensive line couldn't hear the snap count over the roar from the fans. Ask the Carolina Panthers. Ask Fox Sports' Joe Buck, who at the start of Sunday's game said "This place is literally shaking right now it's so loud."

In general I think pro sports are a waste of time. However, now that the seachickens have made the superbowl, it's an opportunity for socializing and arbitrary rooting for one's city. So, I will probably go to a suberbowl party and cheer.

If you're any sort of football fan at all, you can say "fucking seahawks" differently this year.
