Everytime you here about a bust, it's because it was because some dumbass or greedy motherfucker was trying to smuggle in 100 pounds from Canada, or had hundreds of plants growing in the attic.
Just grow a couple plants in a closet. That should keep you stoned all year.
People need to wake up! The only way to get marijuana (medical or otherwise) legal is congress (both the U.S. and the States) has to make it legal. The public voting on it locally does nothing Fedrally. A former Republican congressmen, whom I won't name, told me, even Newt Gingrich had said that marijuana laws were stupid, but until a huge majority of voters were in favor of it, no one is likely to bring it to the floor for a vote.

You said that "The public voting.. locally does nothing Fedrally. "
and that "until a huge majority of voters were in favor of it, no one is likely to bring it to the floor for a vote."
How can you sway the majority of voters and not include local initiatives in your arsenal? See gay marriage in Canada for an example of how local initiatives can lead national policy.

An interesting blog documenting the DEA's seemingly-unconstitutional war on medicinal marijuana in the Bay Area:

Aw, if this were only Canada!
Initiatives do nothing to change Federal laws (sorry for the typos, but I am on dialysis and only have one free arm). As has been demonstrated, states can change the laws all they want, but if the Fed says something is a crime, it's still a crime. They can enforce it one of two ways. Send in the ATF, FBI etcetera to bust us potheads themselves, or withhold Federal funds to the state and local governments until they give in and start prosecuting locally.
