Here is the court's ruling, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs/supreme_court_mgm_grokster_27_06_05.pdf

I wonder if they even know of torrents?

I wouldn't consider this all so apocalyptic...
They didn't ban p2p all together, it's now moving to a lower court's decision (and there must be enough evidence of unlawful intent) for specific p2p programs. grokster, you're up first.

But now, guess who has the steering wheel. I like the idea of putting RIAA flags in dog shit around town. Their future will be a hacker's playground.

Here's the RIAA statement after the ruling:
"With this unanimous decision, the Supreme Court has addressed a significant threat to the U.S. economy and moved to protect the livelihoods of the more than 11 million Americans employed by the copyright industries. The Supreme Court has helped to power the digital future for legitimate online businesses – including legal file sharing networks – by holding accountable those who promote and profit from theft. This decision lays the groundwork for the dawn of a new day – an opportunity that will bring the entertainment and technology communities even closer together, with music fans reaping the rewards."

some of my favorite lines:
"protect the livelihoods" - as if it were really in danger of poverty.
"with music fans reaping the rewards" - if by 'music fans' you mean 'you', then yes, i agree.
