NOISE FOR THE NEEDY ANNOUNCES A WEEK OF MUSIC ACROSS SEATTLE TO BENEFIT LOCAL HOMELESS YOUTH
Seattle Clubs and Artists Play Host to
Noise for the Needy Concert Series from July 11-17
To Benefit ROOTS Young Adult Shelter
Seattle, WA—June 22, 2005—Seattle-based Noise for the Needy is launching a week-long local music festival to benefit Seattle’s own ROOTS Young Adult Shelter. The Noise for the Needy concert series will include seven diverse evenings of music at eight different venues between July 11-17.
Participating artists to date include Post Stardom Depression, Kim Virant, Christy McWilson, Infomatik, Henry Hanks, Mamma Casserole, RazRez, The Cops and many more. Participating clubs include Neumo’s, The Mirabeau Room, Rendezvous, High Dive, Sunset Tavern, Mars Bar and others. More artists and special guests will soon be announced, and watch www.noisefortheneedy.org <http://www.noisefortheneedy.org> for up-to-the-minute information. The full week’s lineup to date is below. No advance tickets are available.
Noise for the Needy was founded by local brothers Rich and David Green in the early 90s. David Green left Seattle to attend a small college in Orange County, California and volunteered to feed the homeless at a nearby park. His eyes were opened to the people who were struggling to feed themselves and their children each day just blocks from the affluent neighborhood where he attended school. He started Noise for the Needy while he was there as a way to raise money and awareness for this cause. Years later, Rich established the organization here in Seattle. Since its inception, NFTN has raised more than $100,000 through live rock shows in both Seattle and Southern California. Bands participating in previous shows include The Vandals, Ozomotli, The Offspring, The Black Eyed Peas, Rancid, the Long Beach Dub All Stars and many more. This is the first year the organization will embark on a week-long series of events.
“Music is such an important part of the Seattle community,” says Noise for the Needy co founder, Rich Green. “And Seattle’s music community is always among the first to step up and use their talents to provide solutions for the challenges that exist in our neighborhoods. Our organization is just a vehicle to make that easier for them.”
The concerts’ beneficiary is the ROOTS Young Adult Shelter. ROOTS (Rise Out Of The Shadows) was founded in 2000 to provide critical services for homeless young people. ROOTS operates the only shelter in Seattle that specifically addresses the needs of young adults between the ages of 18 and 25, who are too old to access youth shelter and often feel unwelcome or threatened in emergency programs that mostly serve older single adults. ROOTS also hosts the all-ages “Friday Feast” meal program, serving restaurant-quality meals to over 150 hungry people each week.
“ROOTS staff and guests are very grateful to everybody who participates in Noise for the Needy,” says Sinan Demirel, Executive Director of ROOTS. “We welcome this great opportunity to help us involve the music community and in raising awareness of and building support for the work we and our service provider partners do in the community.” For more information, go to www.roots.udsp.org <http://www.roots.udsp.org/> .
“Noise for the Needy benefits have been a decade-long labor of love for me,” says co-founder and Rich’s brother, David. “My hope is that people attend these shows walk away wanting to help to make the world a better place and contribute in some way. That’s how it started for me.”
Noise for the Needy is presenting this week-long festival of music in cooperation with NadaMucho.com. NadaMucho is a volunteer online music magazine and live music promoter operating in the Puget Sound area since 1997. "As self-proclaimed 'music dorks' who have long enjoyed the fruits of the Seattle music scene, it feels really good to give something back," said NadaMucho.com Publisher/Editor Matt Ashworth. "This is our third event with Noise for the Needy, and we're really excited about the list of performers we've put together to help us raise money for homeless young adults."
