Tonight, Seattle music people have at least 3 chances to spend money on shows that will benefit worthy causes:
•At the Sunset, Jon Auer, Matt Southworth, Robb Benson and a bunch of other fine songwriters are playing to benefit a schooteacher who tries to expose his students to stuff not funded by his public school budget.
•At the Showbox, David Cross, Todd Barry, The Thermals, and a bunch of other famous funny rocking people are raising dough for the VERA project, the noblest of causes. It's $30.
•At the Crocodile, a group of Seattle musicians including Sean Nelson from Harvey Danger and the Long Winters (and The Stranger), Bill Herzog from Jesse Sykes and The Sweet Hereafter and Citizen's Utilities (RIP), John Hollis, and Darren Loucas are performing The Who's Tommy from start to finish to help raise funds for Pete Greenberg, a sweet guy who does a lot for Seattle music, who has massive hospital bills on account of having no medical insurance. The band is called Tommy All The Way Through, and it's a one-time deal. Slender Means and Math and Physics Club open. They're both great, too. $10.
Let the battle rage!
