View Full Version : Remembering "Strippergate"

As much as The Stranger's obsession with the Seattle Weekly gets on my nerves, I've got to point out the mother of all hypocrisies in the latest issue of the Weekly. In an article titled "Throwing the Bums Out," Geov Parrish does what he's best at: whining. He whines about how city councilmembers elected in 2003 amidst the "Strippergate" controversy have turned out to be ineffective do-nothings. He goes on to blame the PUBLIC for overreacting to Strippergate (let's see, which paper was it that relentlessly harped on that non-issue? Could it have been...the WEEKLY?)
Anyhow, I found the article through Andy Nicastro's blog (yes, brother of Judy) - here. (http://andynicastro.blogspot.com/2005/07/it-was-you-charley.html) And here's (http://www.bloglines.com/blog/Duffell?id=24) a little more commentary from me.
Stranger editing staff, take note: Andy Nicastro knows his stuff, and he writes well. Maybe there's space for one more columnist?

at the mere mirage of SEX SEX at the miserable Weekly... which, of course, runs as many naughty ads as The Stranger.

Strippergate was overrated as a reason for 3 Council members getting voted out. There was a lot of "throw the bums out," stuff being written back then as opposed to this time around when the theme seems to be- "Nickels and the running Council members don't have anybody any good running against them." It's getting to be an old story, but Vulcan for one, has donated more to the current races than any strip clubs ever did. Just my opinion.

Strippergate was overrated as a reason for 3 Council members getting voted out.
Strippergate was the main reason why 2 of the 3 council members were booted out of office back in 2003. A fourth council member would have been booted for the same reason (strippergate) if it were not for the fact that his opponent was, to be polite, such an asshole, and a bigger liability.
Strippergate was in fact a major force in the outcome of the 2003 city council election. Downplay that fact if it floats your boat, gets ya through the day, and eases all your pain.

I'm not trying to downplay anything - I recognize the moronic reality of Seattle voters and the moronic news sources that sway them. I know Strippergate was the driving force behind the reshaping of the City Council in '03. I just wish Geov Parrish would shut his fry hole.

They fought the bloodiest war in American history.
In WWII the average age of a combat soldier was 26.

I don't mean to interrupt your train of thought, Melle, but what's the connection? No one involved in Strippergate on either side was in WW II, which says something about Colacurcio. Besides, the Civil War was our bloodiest. Lost four times as many men out of a much smaller population.
