Funding Challenges for 10th Seattle Music Fest at Alki Beach

Seattle, WA- July 11, 2005- If you really care about local music, here's your chance to make a difference. Northwest Programs for the Arts' 10th annual Seattle Music Fest at Alki Beach (SMF) could be canceled without sufficient community support.

SMF is essential to the Seattle music scene because it showcases and supports local talent that might not otherwise reach a wide audience. The festival attracts a diverse audience each August with its gorgeous location, suggested-donation entry, and stellar performances. For Seattle and the Northwest to continue our legacy of musical vitality, it is important to support festivals such as SMF.

In order to maintain SMF's high standards and improve upon past successes, an upswelling of community support is needed. Fundraising efforts are still underway even though contributions from several large sponsors, including Scion and Doc Marten's, have a gone a long way to finance the festival.

Executive Director Adam Sheridan says, “The Seattle Music Fest benefits the entire community as one of the only events exposing local musicians to a diverse audience. We hope people will act quickly to preserve this Seattle tradition.”

The festival, which is scheduled for August 12, 13, and 14, will be better than ever this year. Bands such as They Might Be Giants, Portland's Derby, and South Africa's Karma have agreed to perform, with local favorites including Post Stardom Depression, Ms. Led, and Common Heroes.

SMF began in 1996 and has been as a showcase for emerging Northwest talent ever since. Funds raised benefit NPA programs.

Those able to contribute or who know of companies that might sponsor should call Northwest Programs for the Arts at 206-632-4545 or email at contribute@northwestarts.org
