"Keep your laws off my body. I'm pro-cloning" kinda reminds me of "Screw Abstinence." I realize slogans must be short and provocative, but we can do better.

I think it's fair to say that the people who reject cloning also reject Roe (and evolution). Your adaptation of a pro-choice slogan throws gasoline on the fire. The words "cloning" and "clone" don't help the cause, either. They just rile folks up.

This isn't about making clones. It's about science and making people healthier.

I loved the slogans that Horsey drew into bumper stickers on the back of a right-wingers car: God Bless the Beasts and Blastocysts.

I don't remember all the rest, but you are absolutely right that how an idea is branded makes all the difference.

So how about some ideas for better slogans? Hmm let's see. Can't think of any.

But is it true that the big breakthrough in cloning happened when a scientist accidentally mixed duplicating fluid with extra body shampoo?

Moon,
I didn't wear that shirt. I wore an army green, button down instead. You're probably right about it. I don't remember what I was thinking when I made that shirt about three years ago. I have another one, though, that I made about five years ago that says: "I'm Pro-Cloning and I Vote."

Well if it's not on FOXNews television, I don't really mind it as a sort of pedestrian slogan. I like its attitude. It would amuse me and spark my thoughts for a while if I saw it on the street. That's what slogans should do. But the television and MSM can frame those slogans in unexpected ways, as you obviously know.

As for coming up with slogans for mass consumption, I rather think the closely-related issue of federal funding for embyronic stem-cell research (which is not reproductive cloning, a la Dolly and Snuppy) is both more pertinent and politically viable at the moment.

Frist recently decided to support S.471 (http://www.congress.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d109:S.471:) The related bill H.R.810 (http://www.congress.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d109:H.R.810:) already passed the House. But Bush has said he'll veto it. Murray and Cantwell are both cosponsors.

"Voting" is good.

"Cloning" is iffy.

How about...

"Anti-Disease and I vote."

Also, you should be Tom Selleck.

I looked at that for 5 minutes before realizing that "MSM" referred not to Miami Sound Machine, but rather the mainstream media.

Johnny I could not agree with more. Shouldn't we all be Tom Selleck?

Johnny Slick and duffell,

I'm sorry to piss on your parade. Your collective wit is clearly devastating, but do either you have anything relevant to add to this thread?

Do either of you give a crap about this issue? Do either of you know anything about it? Do either of you know someone suffering from a degenerative disease?

Yes, I do. And I'm deadly serious about the issue. Does that mean I can't stray from the point with the occasional lame joke or observation from time to time? This is a message board on the internet, not the floor of the Senate.

Secondly, it doesn't sound like you're sorry to piss on my parade. Sounds like you'd love nothing better.

Yeah, you're right. I did get some satisfaction out of that. I'm not sorry at all.

You're also right in that this probably isn't a forum for a serious discussion.

Signing off.
