She's angry, unattractive and a hypocritical hatemonger. Maybe we'll catch a break and she'll choke on a twinkie.

'Kay, I'm positive hat I've read this exact thread before. With the exact same title and wording.

Well, I guarantee it won't be your twinkie, Sam.

Why does everyone hate Rosie? I've always kind of liked her. She's funny. She's a hell of a lot better than that zero Donald Trump (a no-account stuffed shirt if ever there was one, living proof that big business is about as meritocratic as Las Vegas).

Count me out. Rosie's A-Okay in my book.

Her sins are largely against gender expectations. The people who complain about her seem to have an issue with uppity lezbeens, or strong women whose strength derives from something other than feminine sexual appeal. The criticism that she is "unattractive" is the tip off in the OP. That she is a lesbian who is outspoken means she is "angry." Might as well call this thread "no fat chicks."

Hmmm. Could be. Sucks if true. That's the whole reason I like her: she's extroverted, no-bullshit, a lot of backbone.

The thing I don't really like about her is, I've seen her get into that whole celebrity-worship mentality, you know? Speculating breathlessly on whether Christina Aguilera will pursue acting or what Jamie Fox will wear to the Oscars, as if she has a large emotional investment in these burning issues. Maybe she does, but that doesn't exactly fill me with respect for her.

Yeah, that's not my thing either, but I sure know people who're into that.

It doesn't seem terribly different than someone who dutifully follows story lines in serial television shows, or people who memorize all the stats of their favorite sports heroes, or which teams are going to be opposing which other teams. There's a buch of shit that other people find interesting and I don't. Every time I find myself in a sports bar it seems I'm surrounded by people with huge emotional investments in whatever's happening on some glowing green screen. They yell at the TV like it's taunting them.

People who make clothes for a living tend to know more about fashion designers than I care to. Rosie's stock and trade is celebrities. You could throw darts probably to pick the stuff I find more interesting. Cartography. Python scripting. Unified field theory. Early childhood education.

Still, Rosie's a'ight.

True---considered in itself, what I called "celebrity worship" is just one of many meaningless things people are into.

(Also true: I shouldn't talk, because I am a fool for pro football.)

However, considered not it itself but in context of modern entertainment culture, the celebrity thing bothers me more than other popular fixations for several reasons--- (1) It seems to have grown exponentially over the last 6 or 7 years. New stupidities bother me more than stupidities I am used to. (2) It has grown for no clear reason: entertainment media has existed in more or less its current form for decades; why should people suddenly ascribe a new level of importance to it? 50 years ago you'd see fans in bars going nuts over a pro ballgame, but you wouldn't see front page news articles on a film star's wardrobe. (3) Its sudden overrepresentation in traditional media makes no sense: people with an interest in it have the Internet; they don't need their daily newspaper to cover it. (4) Its growth seems to be perpetuated by clandestine hype. When you see NFL promos, you know they're promoting football and trying to interest people in football. But you never see propaganda that is frankly and openly peddling celebrity worship. Instead you see people like Rosie indulging in it, (I suspect) giving a behavioral cue to their millions of fans. To me this is more than a difference in taste; it smells fishy & I don't trust it.

That said, there are people doing it who are a hell of a lot worse than Rosie. I agree: Rosie is ai'ght.

Rosie O'Donnell is cool, but I still think she looks kind of like Chuckie. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094862/posters)

I'm on the fence for this one! If I could get past the sound of her voice I might be able to make an assessment on whether I liked her or not! Just like Rosie Perez... I'll take fingernails to the chalk board over the sound of their voices any day...!

Rosie Perez? You gotta be kidding me! I love Rosie Perez's voice. I also think she's sexy.

I always compared her to a catfish (http://ag.arizona.edu/aes/mac/images/catfish.jpg). But the cobra works, too.

Okay. I've been back and forth with Rosie. Hated her, then saw her making some sense talking about some important issue and decided to like her, now I think she sucks again. What's up with that "Ching chong Danny DeVito ching chong" crack, and then NOT UNDERSTANDING that that would be offensive to people?? God, I hate that "ching chong" crap. Dumb.

Don't worry people - Rosie quit "The View". She now works for Donald Trump. I think she's his hair stylist.
