Default Barack Obama

This evening at about 7:00 I stopped in Elliott Bay Books to get tickets for the speech Barack Obama will be giving at Benaroya Hall. I asked how much the tickets are.

The nice lady at the counter told me that tickets were five bucks, but they all sold out. I asked her when they went on sale. She said that the tickets went on sale this morning at nine, and sold out by eleven.

I was impressed.

Outside the bookstore scalpers were trying to unload tickets for the Rolling Stones before the show.

Later: seen on a bumper sticker: "He's ready. Why wait? Obama '08."

I'm not swept away. The Obama on this tour is not the guy who two years ago called for an end to the war and an America more concerned with social justice.

This Obama is the guy who hired Tom Daschel's chief of staff and now will trim any position, advocate any idea that will promote his presidential ambition, and will repudiate any idea that has less than 51% support in the most recent Zogby poll. I read a lot of complaints in this forum about Maria Cantwell. You folks do understand that Obama is to the right of Cantwell, don't you? Two years ago he wasn't, but two years ago the presidential bug hadn't bitten him.

The Streak, kids. White Guys 42, Women & Minorities 0. Never bet against the streak.

Now, the "me" of a few years ago would have leapt down my own throat for saying that ("how's anything ever supposed to change then, asshole?"), and I'd be right. That being said, at this particular selfish juncture in my life I really really don't want to see the white house tossed back to the GOP because the Dems put forth somebody the electorate can't/won't swallow. Remember the gay marriage debate, how that tanked undecided moderate voters and handed the election to Bush? Imagine that scenario again, except instead of guys with silly little mustaches kissing as an image in the red-staters' lizard brain, it's Willie Horton sniffing around their daughters. don't think they won't try it: youtube'd GOP attack ad (yes it's real) , NYT article about same

Not to hand the red-staters the whole, er, playing field of debate, but we are not now at anywhere near our most culturally tolerant re: diversity. We (by "we" I mean you, me, and Kansas) are in fact backsliding. If a woman or minority were ever* going to be elected, I can't help but think it would have happened in the 70's-redux '90s, when we were at our most socially progressive. Anybody remember a weird little thing called "Political Correctness"? It was clunky and akward, but ultimately well-intended. What do we have today? The 10 commandments hanging in courthouses and creationism taught in highschool biology.

Yeah, PC didn't even get us a white female VP canditate. The only guys Obama could beat, in this day and age, are Alan Keyes and Vincente Fox. America would elect Pat Buchanan over Obama, please please don't make me say "I told you so" on this.

*Not "ever", obviously. In another decade or three there won't be an ethnic "majority" in the US anymore, so whoever wins (black, white, asian, hispanic, native, sunni, shiite, whatever) will by definition be a "minority". And even then, I'm betting s/he's gonna be Pro Big Agra/Pharma/Oil/Defense anyway. They'll be like a mob-hit casino owner you find rolled in a carpet in the desert: Green on the outside, rich white guy on the inside.

At this juncture of our nation's history, I don't believe the "masses" are enlightened enough to vote for a black male, regardless of how articulate, charming and intelligent he may be.

Obama would be cut to bits with "Southern Strategy" race baiting ads: "The liberals want to hoodwink the american people into voting for an unqualified minority with 2 years in the senate. Do we want an affirmative action appointed president in the white house?"

Do you guys remember how excited people where about John Dean two years out, and how meta the process became in trying to figure out who "the masses" would vote for?

I like Obama right now. It's still two years off. Jesus just go with your gut and don't try to find someone "the masses" would want on their bowling team.

Rain Monkey, I said quite the opposite. Barak Obama in two years has "trimmed" himself as much as Hubert Humphrey did in twenty, and it's not a pretty process.

I don't know when America will dump the race monkey off its collective back; the Senate race in Tennessee this year will give a hint.

But I also don't know when the Democratic Party will dump the inferiority complex. Remember Dean? He was against the war from the beginning; against the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act (let's remember, it's an acronym); against throwing money down the toilet and forcing the middle class to pay for it. So the Evildoers (a/k/a the RNC) didn't have anything on him. Well, he'd ducked the Vietnam draft, but that was a path the RNC couldn't tread. So the Big Five Media Pigs attacked him for talking too loud, and the Democratic Party voters fled, ran like chickens in a shit storm, and picked a pussy like John Francis Kerry.

I would still vote for Obama over anybody on the Republican horizon, but I wish he had a little more street and a little less Harvard in him.

Maybe Obama and Sharpton, 2008. Balance that Harvard with some street. No wait: Barack Obama and Bill Richardson! Hot damn, that's a winning ticket.

Wesley Clark on the front or the back end of a ticket is a potential winner. His military and foreign affairs experience will buffer the dems against the "weak on defense" accusations and his intelligence and liberalism will satisfy the left.

If George Patton was on a Democrat ticket he would end up looking like a pussy when the Republican distruction machine got done with him. And Bush and Cheney would still be war heros.

Lets do to what the Republicans have done, run on our strengths: fiscal responsibility, justice, education and the environment. The American people have had their bloodlust sated for the next four or five years anyway.

The best part is that the DNC has copies of the commercials Bush ran in South Carolina about what a traitor John McCain is. If McCain gets the nomination...

That would be the honorable thing. But just to get it out of our system, let's do what the Republicans really do and run that tape of Reichert telling McGavick how fine his cock tastes.

After seeing him at the 2004 DNC as keynote speaker, I was ready to vote for him as president.

Wesley Clark is a poser "talking head" who has ridden on the coattails of his patrons the Clintons ever since he left the Army. Any credit for his "success" in the Balkans should go to the efforts of his General Staff officers. He only said what they told him to say. Trust me- the man is an well coached, somewhat telegenic idiot. A slightly more articulate GWB of the Democratic persuasion.

An African American has a snowball's chance in hell of getting elected to the US Senate in Tennessee. Especially when the Republicans are subtley
playing up the race issue for all it's worth.
It's been 140 years since Reconstruction but dig deep enough and the old resentments are still there. Even though most whites have switched to the Republican party- they still blame the former slaves for most of their woes. And the party of Lincoln will always cynically exploit any political advantage for all it's worth.

The only real difference between Democrats and Republicans these days are their stances on abortion, gay rights and gun control. In every other regard their political stances are almost identical but for semantic nuances.
Both parties get most of their TV ad money from the same people.
So guess who Mr and Mrs Nascar Dad are going to vote for everytime?
It's simple arithmatic, nationwide, Mr and Mrs Nascar Dad outnumber Mrs and Mr Soccer Mom about two to one.
The economy has to get alot worse for that equation to ever change.

Interesting.
2 yrs back: Obama chatting at Garfield. And stuff like this on the forum:

Quote:

No wonder this knowitall townie snob doesn't post here anymore.
Of course my own prediction from long ago about McCain being president could also be wrong.

OTOH, BP was on top of his game predicting the motivation of Obama.
Just read his shit on this page. It's like the pimp had the guy's playbook.

Barack Obama brutally, brutally tortured me with such viciousness that even using the words that would be necessary to report what their sadism consisted of constitutes abuse.

Default It's that awful paperboy

I happen not to believe that being at the mercy of tormentors is the same thing as being defeated, so I don't really hold to the Left in Seattle's view that having been tortured equates with being a mockery.

The reason why Ringo Starr did not just acknowledge that a single mother and her broken home were used by an evil syndicate is that for him it was all about drug money. The fulminating and pimping gangsterism of a syphillitic varmit on high is too old of a game for a celebrity sloven to hold it in remorse.

The U.S. is faced with a situation not at all different from the one faced by Germany and Japan: How do we explain what we did to the children, and it seems clear that an absence of magnanimity will be the standard that binds us in the bluster and glory of total defeat to the old Axis. I'm sure many powerful groups in Japan and Germany wish that the U.S. had protected them from fascism within, too, and they face the same dread, of being forced to adopt the persona of denial and patriotism in the AIDS onslaught, protecting the guilty, because they are too weak not to capitulate.

Obama is capitulation written as victory.

Sean Lennon was Hitler's heir apparent and went Jew on blond hate crime to galvanize the Left behind the least likely suspect during his days down on Butler Street at Leslie Park in Lawrenceville.

Obama and Caspar demarcated their end of the Reagan revolution structuro-ethnically. Mehta of Butcher Singer surrounded my American Gothic grandparents while I was worked over in a closet forum. The nerve agent given to little Jimmy to create an enemy within, the satiric Satan who really, secretly meant it when he lampooned the racists, the humanist child, to blame for Adolf's last act. Who looks more like Hitler, little Jimmy now or Sean? Therefore Sean is the holy one. Quite simple. Ask the Palin teens.

Obama engineered an attempt to force APOLOGY to those who released AIDS that nearly worked due to the horrific dementia of neuroplasia caused by torture through the recycling of inflicted seizures. It was smarmed in misdiagnosis claptrap that gurgled from O'Hara Psychiatric like a dour lampoon from a cheap cop novel by Nabokov in senility.
